Tenganan village, the balinese traditional village

Traditional balinese dance, Legong Dance


balitravels-legong-dancerLegong is a form of Balinese dance. It is a refined dance form characterized by intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, and expressive gestures and facial expressions.

Legong probably originated in the 19th century as royal entertainment. Legend has it that a prince of Sukwati fell ill and had a vivid dream in which two maidens danced to gamelan music. When he recovered, he arranged for such dances to be performed in reality. Others believe that the Legong originated with the sanghyang dedari, a ceremony involving voluntary possession of two little girls by beneficent spirits. Legong is also danced at public festivals. Excerpts from Legong dance dramas are put on for tourists.

Pura Besakih, the mother of the Bali temples

Besakih is the Mother of the Temples of Bali is located in the Besakih Village, Rendang, Karangasem district. Besakih the overflow in the hills of the Mount Agung feels Pure Besakih, referred extensively like the “Center of All temple” of the Hinduism in Bali. Taman Ujung Soekasada, one of popular recreation spot in east of Bali

Galungan is a sacred ceremony that gives spiritual strength to be able to distinguish where the life force coming from and where from budhi adharma atma is the voice of truth (dharma) in human beings.

Galungan is a feast of Hindu people in Bali are held every six months, so there are two times in a year Galungan celebration day. In Lontar Sunarigama Galungan Day has a lot of series of activities before or since, among others:

Sugihan Jawa Day
Sugihan Jawa celebrated on Wage Wrhaspati Wuku Sungsang, six days before Galungan. Implementation of this ceremony is to clean all the equipment and ceremonies in their respective holy places. Besakih Temple, the largest temple in Bali


Pura Agung Besakih located in the Besakih village, Rendang district, located in the southwest slope of Mount Agung is the highest mountain in Bali. Access from Denpasar to reach this place is about 25 km to the north of the City Semarapura – Klungkung regency. The trip to Pura Besakih the passing panorama of Crest Hill is also one of the objects and attractions of Karangasem regency.

Pura Besakih Location deliberately chosen in the village which is considered sacred because it was high, called Hulundang Basukih which later became the village of Besakih. Name Besakih taken from Sanskrit name, wasuki or in the ancient Javanese language Basuki which means congratulations.
